Corvus Consort and harpist Louise Thomson will be broadcast on Washington D.C.’s public radio station WETA in the New Year.
Tracks from their critically-acclaimed album ‘Welcome Joy’ will be heard as part of WETA’s programme Choral Showcase on the January 18th episode entitled ‘A Celebration of Women’s Voices’, alongside works by female composers on a selection of other recently-released albums.
Their performance of Imogen’s Welcome Joy and Welcome Sorrow will open the programme, which broadcasts “a wide variety of classical choral music from Washington and beyond – from perennial favourites to new discoveries, from Gregorian Chant to the present”. Later in the episode, Corvus and Louise’s recording of Gustav Holst’s Choral Hymns from Rig Veda, Third Group will be aired.
Released by Chandos in 2024, ‘Welcome Joy’ has earned unanimous praise across the press, and was selected by BBC Radio 3’s programme Essential Classics as their Album of the Week shortly after its release. BBC Music Magazine named ‘Welcome Joy’ as one of the 13 best albums of 2024, with Ashutosh Khandekar writing in his five-star review that it is “… an immaculate collection. Corvus Consort, Louise Thomson and Freddie Crowley are dazzling.”
The broadcast on WETA takes place on January 18th at 9:00pm EST, and more details can be found by clicking here.
