Pianist Hiroaki Takenouchi is delighted to announce the upcoming release of his new album later this month on Artalinna.
The disc is dedicated to works for solo piano by twentieth century British female composers Dorothy Howell, Madeleine Dring, Doreen Carwithen and Caroline (Orger) Reinagle. It is a project that affirms Takenouchi’s commitment to championing the voices of composers whose voices have been unjustly neglected, and celebrates their poetic sensibility and compositional skill.
Takenouchi’s enduring passion and respect for the work of female British composers has led to high-profile recording engagements focused on this area of the repertoire. He was invited to make recordings for the BBC Radio 3 of music by Hélène de Montgeroult, Doreen Carwithen and Johanna Müller-Hermann, amongst others, as part of the station’s initiative, the ‘Forgotten Women Composers Project’, and, with duo partner Simon Callaghan, released ‘Danza Gaya’, a critically-acclaimed album of music for two pianos by British composers Madeline Dring, Dorothy Howell and Pamela Harrison.
Two tracks from this new album album are available to stream in advance of its worldwide release on 17th October. The first of Doreen Carwithen’s Four Preludes, composed in 1950, may be heard here, and Dorothy Howell’s Boat Song can be heard by clicking this link. The album will be released worldwide on 17th October, and can be pre-ordered here.
