Violist Rachel Roberts‘ recording of a new work by Edward Gregson appears on a disc that has been selected as one of the best new classical recordings by Gramophone Magazine, being included in the Editor’s Choice feature in the December edition.

Her recording of Gregson’s viola concerto Three Goddesses is featured on the new album ‘A Vision in a Dream: Concertos by Edward Gregson’, released earlier this month by Chandos. Rachel gave the world premiere of the work at the Presteigne Festival in 2023, and recorded it for this album with the BBC Philharmonic and Ben Gernon.

Since its release, the album has received positive reviews across the press, the performances being described as “fully attuned” by Gramophone and “superb” by the British Music Society.

BBC Radio 3 dedicated several episodes of its programme Classical Live to the album in celebration of the composer’s 80th birthday, with Rachel’s performance available to listen to here.
