BBC Radio 3 broadcasts Rachel Roberts

Violist Rachel Roberts‘ recording of a new concerto by Edward Gregson was broadcast by BBC Radio 3 last week, and is still available online.

Her world premiere recording of Three Goddesses will be heard on the station’s popular ‘Classical Live’ programme. The work, for viola and string orchestra, was written for Rachel, having been commissioned by the Prestiegne Festival in 2023. It conveys the natures of three mythical deities: ‘Morrigan’, the Celtic warrior queen, ‘Aphrodite’, Greek goddess of love and beauty, and ‘Diana’, Roman goddess of the hunt.

Rachel recorded the concerto alongside the BBC Philharmonic and conductor Ben Gernon earlier this year, for inclusion on the forthcoming album ‘A Vision in a Dream – Concertos by Edward Gregson‘. The album will be released on 14th November by leading classical music label Chandos.

Works from the album were featured on the programme over several episodes, to mark the composer’s 80th birthday, with Three Goddesses featured on Thursday 6th November. You can listen by clicking here.  It begins at 2:37:18.
