Tim Horton on Ensemble 360 for The Strad

Founding Ensemble 360 member Tim Horton wrote an in-depth article for leading classical music publication The Strad about the way in which the ensemble’s programming for this year’s Sheffield Chamber Music Festival was strongly emblematic of their history.

In celebration of their 20th anniversary this year, Ensemble 360 served as guest curators of the festival, and crafted a series of concerts that display the diversity and depth of their repertoire. In the article Tim writes that:

“the role of Ensemble 360 has been of fundamental importance for the development of the festival. As you might expect from a group of musicians whose professional activities away from Sheffield include roles in major orchestras, collaborations with some of the greatest musicians, and concerts in the world’s best venues, we have built a rich, detailed knowledge of the repertoire and programming. In combination with the inspirational outreach and diversity work of Music in the Round, which is rooted in the desire and need to bring the best music to as many people as possible, this year’s Sheffield Chamber Music Festival will be a celebration of a shared belief in the experience of music as fundamental right for all.”

Tim’s article gives insight into the festival’s unique programming, and to the stories behind it, and may be read in full by following this link. Ensemble 360’s concerts at the festival have met with critical acclaim, and culminated on 24th May with a performance of pieces by Mozart, Elgar and Beethoven that were amongst the works performed in their very first concert.
