The first single from a new album of music by British composer Pamela Harrison, curated by clarinettist Robert Plane, is released today and is available to stream on major platforms.
It precedes the November release of ‘Lonely Landscape: Chamber Music and Song by Pamela Harrison’, an album comprised of world premiere recordings of works written by Harrison, whose music has enjoyed a resurgence thanks in major part to Robert’s extensive research and performance activity around her output.
Performed by Robert and pianist Jâms Coleman, the Andante from Harrison’s 1962 Four Short Pieces is the third of four pieces for individual woodwind instruments and piano. Composed in the years following the breakup of her marriage and subsequent move to Dartmoor, the work is characteristic of her turn towards smaller-scale chamber music during this time.
‘Lonely Landscape’ follows the success of Robert’s first disc of Harrison’s chamber music, which received critical acclaim upon its release in 2023.
The full album will be released by Resonus on 15th November, and more details may be found here. Learn more about Robert’s exploration of Harrison’s music in his recent article for Clarinet and Saxophone Magazine, available to read via this link.
