Corvus Consort present Islington Winter Concert

Corvus Consort look forward to performing their Islington Winter Concert, a musical tripytych that presents music inspired by the poetry of George Herbert, works by members of the Bach family, and a celebration of birds.

Taking place at St. James’ Church in Islington, this concert showcases the dynamism and innovative programming for which Corvus Consort and their director Freddie Crowley are known. Described as “dazzling” and “always full of fresh thinking” by BBC Music Magazine, Corvus’s combination of musical excellence, passionate performance and imaginative presentation makes them hugely popular with audiences nationwide.

The first part of this programme explores the poetry of English metaphysical poet George Herbert, with a focus on music by leading contemporary composers Judith Weir and Alec Roth. Following the first interval, Corvus Consort turn their attention to music by members of the Bach family – an iconic motet by J.S. Bach sits alongside works by brothers J.M. Bach and J.C. Bach (cousins of J.S. Bach’s father), revealing the ways in which elder members of the Bach family helped to shape J.S. Bach’s mastery of vocal writing. To close the concert, Corvus perform a selection of works ranging from 20th century masterpieces to music by living composers and arrangements of traditional folk songs, all of which are inspired by birds. Underscored poem recitations lend another layer of texture to this unique programme.

This concert will take place on 30th January at 7:30pm, and tickets and further details may be found by following the link below.
