BBC Radio 3 broadcasts Robert Plane

BBC Radio 3 selected a track from Robert Plane‘s latest release for inclusion in a recent episode of their programme ‘Essential Classics’.

Ruth Gipps’ Cool Running Water, op. 77 is one of the largely unknown works featured on ‘The Lily of Killarney’, Robert’s critically-acclaimed album of English and Irish fantasias for clarinet and piano. Called “a classy and handsomely presented release” by Gramophone Magazine, the album is a natural continuation of Robert’s tireless commitment to British repertoire, which has seen him champion neglected voices from the nation’s musical past as well as leading composers from its present.

Presenter Ian Skelly described the album as “rich in some delightful miniatures and character pieces” prior to playing Gipp’s work during the episode of his popular morning programme on 28th November. The broadcast is available to listen to via this link, with Robert’s performance being heard at 17:24.
