New album on BIS from George Vass

BIS Records has released an album of British piano concertos performed by Clare Hammond and the BBC Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Tashmina artist George Vass.

The album features works by Michael Tippett, Benjamin Britten and William Walton, and presents the premiere recording of the revised version of Walton’s Sinfonia Concertante since 1970.

Vass is widely regarded as one of the leading voices in modern British music, having given voice to the world premiere of over 150 works. His commitment to the field has been recognised with both a BASCA Gold Badge Award marking his support for the UK song writing and composing community, and the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Leslie Boosey Award.

Reflecting on the project, Hammond says “these pieces cover the gamut of human emotion and experience, from the ethereal to the viscerally exciting, from deep introspection to pure elation. To work with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and George Vass on this project was a dream. I had to keep pinching myself during the orchestral tutti. Their performances were entrancing!”

The album is available to stream and purchase in hard copy. Further details about this recording may be found by clicking here.
