Wonderful evening … Krivokapić and Cerović delighted the audience

TVM, Ohrid

Krivokapić and Cerović delighted the audience.

The Montenegrin guitar duo, Goran Krivokapić and Danijel Cerović delighted the audience at the Ohrid Summer festival yesterday evening with their masterful performance in Saint Sofia’s Church.

For their programme, the two outstanding artists performed the English Suite No. 6 by Johann Sebastian Bach transcribed for two guitars, which they recorded a few years ago, followed by the Suite Troilleana by Astor Piazzolla. The end of the wonderful evening was reserved for the transcription of music by Manuel de Falla’s.

“This repertoire was not originally written for guitar, but it is our repertoire for guitar duo. The guitar is a specialised instrument and the musical language originally written for the guitar is, in some ways, limited by the technical capabilities of the instrument. When you deal with music that is not intended for guitars, some interactions and important processes happen where you can get to know that the possibilities of the guitar are limitless” – said guitarist Danijel Cerović.

This duo performs together at prestigious festivals and in famous concert halls around the world including the Philharmonic in St Petersburg, the Manuel de Falla Hall in Madrid and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

“Goran and I played together for the first time when we were studying, later we played together at the Music Academy in Maastricht, and that’s actually when our collaboration started, which has lasted for many years. Even after the pandemic, we are once again anchored in our joint work. Goran lives in Germany, and I live in Montenegro, and it was difficult to prepare new repertoire, but during this and next year there will be new material from us” – Cerović added.

He did not hide his pleasure at performing in one of the most renowned festivals in Europe, the Ohrid Summer festival.

“I have listened and followed the Ohrid Summer festival since my student days, and I always had the ambition to come and perform here. Today the dream of performing at Ohrid Summer came true. When we talk about the region that surrounds us and connects us, I have a special place in my heart for Ohrid” – emphasized guitarist Cerović.

The duo has a wide repertoire consisting of transcriptions of “old” music and original compositions from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, with a particular emphasis on contemporary music for two guitars.

Yesterday’s concert by the duo Goran Krivokapic and Danijel Cerovic filled Saint Sofia’s church, and the Italian ambassador Andrea Silvestri was also in the audience.
