Arrangements of large orchestral works for smaller ensembles have long led to successful results, none more so than the Linos Piano Trio’s own arrangements and that of Eduard Steuermann for Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht, because the three musicians Prach Boondiskulchok, piano, Konrad Elias-Trostmann, violin, and Vladimir Waltham, cello, add so much value rather than simply concerning themselves with the notes. La Valse, in particular, benefits from the Linos musicians’ arrangement and almost paraphrased playing. Ravel’s so-called homage to the Viennese waltz sounds superb in this transcription … Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune also sounds very atmospheric, and Schoenerg’s Verklärte Nacht is very emotional.
