Rabl, Watkins and Schubert

Robert Plane (clarinet) and the Gould Piano Trio

Walter Rabl was the first composer to combine the forces of piano trio and clarinet in his ultra-Romantic Opus 1. We partner this with one of the most recent works for the combination, composed by Welsh star composer Huw Watkins for the Gould Piano Trio and Robert Plane in 2018. His fantastical ‘Four Fables’ is touching, thought-provoking, exhilarating and approachable. Schubert’s majestic trio brings the concert to a triumphant close.

Walter Rabl – Clarinet Quartet in E flat major, op. 1
Huw Watkins – Four Fables
Interval
Franz Schubert – Piano Trio no. 2 in E flat major, D. 929
