A series of eight concerts, comprising seven short recitals before culminating in the grand finale – a full-length concert. The arrangement of the concerts can be varied to suit how your own concerts are organised.
“Perhaps the most celebrated “sonata-thon” is of the monumental series by Beethoven. I have never done it myself, but heard various reports from those who have, about the discovery, the mental journey, the spiritual progress, the journey of the man himself, etc. etc… I have a sneaky suspicion and a somewhat sanguine wish that I might find the same shining wonder child in all the sonatas by Mozart. Although his skills as a composer matured, and he certainly changed his languages to suit the changing musical fashion, I think I want to test this theory by playing them all, to find the unchanging, and sparkling, spirit of a man preserved in all the sonatas.
I have now lived longer than Mozart managed. Not that it gives me any right or superior insight to understanding his music, but it is an odd feeling that I am in a position to look back at all the ages at which Mozart wrote his 18 Sonatas. If I have time, I might one day endeavour on the Beethoven, Schubert, or even Haydn too!” Hiroaki Takenouchi
