Robert Plane (clarinet) and the Gould Piano Trio
Louise Farrenc was a pioneering Parisian composer who was celebrated in the early 19th Century but has since fallen into neglect. Her clarinet trio is a fresh, light and fun start to this programme. Huw Watkins’ fantastical Four Fables was written for tonight’s performers in 2018 and it is a work they have championed far and wide, from Portland, Oregon to London’s Wigmore Hall. Saint-Saens’s epic trio is one of his most substantial and dramatic works, though still infused with Gallic grace and charm.
