‘Writing for Quartet’ workshop with the Solem Quartet

The Solem Quartet will host their first digital ‘Writing for Quartet’ workshop at 6:00pm on Thursday 28th January, as part of their ambitious Beethoven Bartók Now project.

The workshop will offer an opportunity for composers of all ages, levels and backgrounds to meet the Solem Quartet, and investigate how to write successfully for string quartet. In the format of a Zoom meeting, the quartet will be taking questions, demonstrating techniques, and performing short excerpts of submitted works.

Free tickets for the workshop can be reserved by clicking here, and composers’ submissions can be sent in advance to — more information about submissions below.

Beethoven Bartók Now is an ambitious six-part series running from December 2020 until March 2023, the latest edition of the Quartet’s ‘Solem Lates’ series.

Beethoven Bartók Now will see the Solem Quartet collaborate with leading young composers of today to perform commissioned new works and present the historic works of Beethoven and Bartók in a new light, as well as producing a wealth of digital content and educational activity.

Across six concerts the Solem Quartet will perform the six late quartets of Beethoven with the six quartets of Bartók, alongside commissioned works from leading living composers.

The ‘Writing for Quartet’ workshops are paired with the Call for Scores competition, the winner of which will have their composition performed in Part III of Beethoven Bartók Now.
