Wihan Quartet joins the Tashmina Artists roster

Tashmina Artists is delighted to announce that the Wihan Quartet has joined the agency roster.

Described by International Record Review as “one of the best quartets in the world today”, the Wihan Quartet is one of the leading string quartets to emerge from the great Czech school of performance in recent years. Formed In 1985, the quartet has gained an extraordinary reputation for its interpretation of both the Czech domestic repertoire and many of the foremost works of the quartet repertoire of the Classical and Romantic periods, as well as modern works.

The Quartet has won many International Competitions including the Prague Spring Festival and the Osaka ‘Chamber Festa’, and in 1991 they won both the First Prize and the Audience Prize in the London International String Quartet Competition. During the 2012/13 season the Quartet was Czech Chamber Music Society Resident Ensemble at the Rudolfinum Dvořák Hall, Prague.

Their extensive discography includes over 25 CDs, mostly on the Nimbus and Arco Diva labels, spanning the last 30 years. Highlights include their recording of Dvořák Op. 34 and Op. 105, released in 2010 and chosen as a ‘Recording of the Year’ by MusicWeb International, which was described as “a superb interpretation” by International Record Review and as “an enormously impressive reading that searches out real depth” by BBC Music Magazine. Their 2013 recording of Schubert’s G major quartet and Quartettsatz received an ‘Outstanding’ from International Record Review and ‘Recommended’ by The Strad, and received high praise in the Sunday Times, who said: “this is playing of the highest quality … their tempo allows you to savour to the full the harmonic richness of this extraordinary music”. The Wihan Quartet’s next concert performance is at NADSA Concerts in Devon on Sunday 15th October at 3pm, where they will be performing their Czech programme featuring Quartets by Smetana, Dvořák and Janáček. They also look forward to upcoming appearances at Alnwick Music Society, Radlett Music Club, and the Martin Randall Salzburg String Quartet Festival in Austria in May next year. They also return to Wigmore Hall in 2024. Click here to see a full list of the Wihan Quartet’s forthcoming concerts.
