Tim Horton showcased this June

Tim Horton‘s exceptional versatility and virtuosity will be on full display this June, with concerts that feature him as both soloist and chamber musician.

His expansive repertoire is highlighted in his solo performances over the course of the month, including the next instalment of his Chopin cycle at Wigmore Hall and performances at the Holywell Music Room in Oxford and at Midsummer Music, directed by pianist Paul Lewis and cellist Bjørg Lewis, in Buckinghamshire.

This unique cycle at Wigmore Hall places Chopin’s music alongside music by composers who preceded him, and by those who were influenced by him. The Boulezian wrote of the opening concert in the series that Tim’s playing was “melting and muscular”, going on to remark that “the performance showed that atmosphere and precision were far from opposed, but rather mutually dependent”. Tim’s exploration of Chopin’s works continues on June 17th with a programme that places Chopin’s fiendishly difficult Piano Sonata no. 3 in B minor, op. 58, Nocturnes op. 27, nos. 1 and 2 and Three Mazurkas op. 59 alongside Schumann’s Piano Sonata No. 1 in F sharp minor Op. 11 and Stockhausen’s Klavierstück VII.

In the week preceding his recital at Wigmore Hall, Tim will return to Oxford Coffee Concerts to perform Haydn’s Piano Sonata Hob XVI:49 and Chopin’s Three Mazurkas, op. 59 and Schumann’s Piano Sonata no. 1 in F sharp minor, op. 11. Tim also looks forward to performing at Midsummer Music in Buckinghamshire earlier in the month, across four concerts:

Thursday 12 June at 7:00pm
Amy Beach – Piano Quintet in F-sharp minor, Op. 67
Franz Schubert – ‘Trout’ Quintet in A major, D. 667

Friday 13 June at 2:30pm
Lekeu – Piano Quartet in G minor, ‘Dans un emportement douloureux’
Robert Schumann – Piano Sonata No. 1 in F sharp minor, Op. 11

Saturday 14 June at 6:00pm
