Tim Horton returns to Wigmore Hall

In the second of six concerts over three years, Tim Horton continues his critically-acclaimed Chopin cycle at Wigmore Hall next month.

Over the course of this cycle, Tim views the complete solo piano works of Chopin through the lens of music by composers who inspired him and were influenced by him. Writing about the cycle at its outset in 2024, Tim says “my hope is that the refraction of their work through Chopin, and of his through them, will enable the listener to assess their music afresh and appreciate the endless and fascinating ambiguities once more.”

The Boulezian wrote of the first recital in the series that “it announced a major voice in its own right, one with interesting and instructive things to say about and with this music… the performance showed that atmosphere and precision were far from opposed, but rather mutually dependent.”

Returning to Wigmore Hall on 5th March, Tim will present Chopin’s Ballades no. 1 in G minor, op. 23, no. 2 in F major op. 38, no. 3 in A flat major, op. 47 and no. 4 in F minor, op. 52 alongside Mozart’s Fantasia in C minor, K. 396 and Szymanowski’s Masques, op. 34. Concertgoers in the Oxford area will have an opportunity to hear Tim perform the Chopin Ballades later this month at the Holywell Music Room, where they will be heard alongside Haydn’s Piano Sonata (Andante and Variations) in F Minor, Hob.XVII:6, Un piccolo divertimento. This concert is presented by Oxford Coffee Concerts, and takes place on 23rd February – more details may be found by following the link below.
