Tim Horton embarks on Chopin Cycle at Sheffield’s Crucible

Friday 26th November sees Tim Horton in concert for Music in the Round in Sheffield, the first in a series of six solo piano recitals centred on the music of Chopin.

The concert at Sheffield’s Crucible Studio Theatre will feature the full set of Chopin’s 24 Preludes Op. 28, alongside Debussy’s twelve Book 2 Preludes. Both sets of preludes take their inspiration from J. S. Bach’s 48 Preludes and Fugues ‘The Well-Tempered Clavier’, with one prelude in each of the 24 major and minor keys of the chromatic scale (although Debussy deviates from this tonal scheme).

This will be the first of six concerts Tim will perform for Music in the Round over the coming seasons, exploring Chopin’s extensive oeuvre of solo piano music, each programme placing Chopin’s works in dialogue with one or more contrasting composers. More information about Tim’s Chopin cycle is available here.

Tim appears frequently for Music in the Round in Sheffield, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician with the flexible Ensemble 360, with whom his next concert will be the following weekend, on Saturday 4th December (Bartók and Ligeti).

Tickets for Tim’s solo recital are available via the Music in the Round website, with £5 tickets for students and U35s.
