They’re all played with a sense of conviction that these are real gems

BBC Radio 3 Record Review, Andrew McGregor

Our thanks to BBC Radio 3 Record Review⁩ for featuring Robert Plane‘s latest CD (recorded with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Martin Brabbins) ‘Reawakened’ on Saturday 25th July.

Andrew McGregor explained that, for him, one of the highlights was the Clarinet Concerto by Ruth Gipps, and you can hear the middle movement from about 1 hour, 38 minutes and 48 seconds into the episode.   He concluded, referring to all of the repertoire ‘reawakened’ by Plane, that

“They’re all played with a sense of conviction that these are all real gems”

The complete Clarinet Concerto by Richard Walthew, from the same disc on the Champs Hill label, was selected for inclusion on Record Review Extra the next evening and can be heard here (at c. 16′ 19″)

Robert Plane is hugely grateful to Champs Hill Records, Creative Scotland, RVW Trust, John Ireland Trust and RWCMD for their financial support of the Reawakened project.
