Beethoven Bartók Now is an ambitious six-part series running from December 2020 until March 2023, the latest edition of the Quartet’s ‘Solem Lates’ series. The Solem Quartet will collaborate with leading young composers of today to perform commissioned new works and present the historic works of Beethoven and Bartók in a new light, as well as producing a wealth of digital content and educational activity.
Across six concerts the Solem Quartet will perform the six late quartets of Beethoven with the six quartets of Bartók, alongside commissioned works from leading living composers – Aaron Parker, Jasmin Kent Rodgman, Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Edmund Finnis and Bushra El-Turk.
The winner of the Call for Scores competition will have their work performed as part of BBN Part III: Pioneers, alongside Bartók’s Quartet no. 1 and Beethoven’s Quartet no. 14, op. 131.
