Steinway Artist, Simon Callaghan, heads north next month to give a lunchtime recital and master class in the stunning acoustics and architecture of the Stoller Hall, Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester – the UK’s award-winning new concert venue – as part of its first full season.
Simon performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. His interest in rarely-performed works has led to invitations to perform concerti by Françaix, Tippett and the first UK performance since 1946 of Medtner’s 3rd Concerto.
In November 2017 Simon’s debut concerto recording for Hyperion’s Romantic Piano Concerto series will be released: the first recordings of Roger Sacheverell Coke’s Concerti with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Martyn Brabbins. Radio 3 listeners may have heard Simon in conversation with Catriona Young in April when he discussed the project before the station gave the premiere broadcast of Coke’s Piano Concerto no.4
Simon puts great value on teaching and in 2017 has given master classes, led a course at Benslow Music and continues his work as Head of Piano at the Ingenium Academy (Winchester). He is greatly looking forward to working with the students at Chetham’s School of Music. His recital and master class is part of the Haworth Series and is generously supported by the Haworth Trust.
