Sunday 10th January 2016, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
As Artistic Director of the Conway Hall, Simon Callaghan is delighted to welcome the Carducci Quartet, one of today’s most successful string ensembles, to the Sunday Night Series. He joins the Quartet in Schumann’s exuberant Piano Quintet in E flat Op.44.The Carducci’s programme begins with Haydn’s Quartet in D Op.20/4, one of six quartets which are among the works that earned him the title “the father of the string quartet”. Debussy’s sole String Quartet in G minor Op.10, considered a watershed in the history of chamber music, impressionistic and cyclical in style is a fascinating contrast to Haydn’s definition of the quartet.
