Works by Halvorsen, Sibelius, Vasks and Piazzolla will feature in their short programme, to be filmed and recorded onsite at one of Europe’s most eminent concert venues.
The concert will be broadcast at 8:30pm (Central European Standard Time) on Thursday 18th February via the Concertgebouw YouTube channel.
Set up almost a year ago, the Empty Concertgebouw Sessions were conceived as a new series to replace the Concertgebouw’s usual free Wednesday lunchtime concerts. Since the first broadcast on 7th April 2020, they have welcomed many of Europe’s leading artists to perform to an empty hall as part of the series.
Daniel and Maja look forward to bringing some of their favourite duo repertoire to the Concertgebouw stage. Much of the music in their programme is drawn from their debut duo CD ‘Pas de Deux’, released to critical acclaim on the Challenge Records label in March 2020. After Halvorsen’s Passacaglia, based on a movement of Handel, comes the miniature Water Droplets (Vattendroppar), written by Sibelius when he was just 10 years old, followed by the intensely brooding masterpiece Castillo Interior by contemporary Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, before a flourishing finish from tango master Astor Piazzolla.
