Daniel and Maja will chat to presenter Katie Derham about their new CD ‘Pas de Deux’ on the Challenge Records Label, and perform music from the disc live in the studio. The duo will be featured near the beginning of the programme at 5.05pm, and the programme will be available shortly after broadcast via this link.
‘Pas de Deux’ is Daniel and Maja’s first CD release, after officially forming their duo partnership in 2018. The disc brings together a collection of favourite works for violin and cello duo which they have performed together over the last two years. They have used Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello, à la memoire de Claude Debussy, the disc’s only firmly-established piece of repertoire, as a “kaleidoscope” for the recording, “a looking glass that takes us both back and forward in time, and both of those simultaneously”. Music by Debussy, Ravel, Sibelius and Piazzolla is placed alongside several works by leading living composers — Daniel and Maja have enjoyed working closely with Pēteris Vasks, Krzysztof Penderecki, Giovanni Sollima, Craig White and Marcelo Nisinman in the lead up to this release, and feel privileged to be including several world premiere recordings.

Pas de Deux goes to distributors worldwide in March, with a subsequent release in the Netherlands. It will be released in France and the USA on 10th April, and in the UK on 17th April.
