Robert Plane on BBC Radio 3 ‘In Tune’

Clarinettist Robert Plane appeared on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ on Tuesday afternoon, chatting to Sean Rafferty about a wide range of topics.

Rob appeared on the programme alongside Lucy Gould, violinist of the Gould Piano Trio, with whom Rob has a long-standing collaboration.

During the phone interview Rob and Lucy talked about their ongoing collaboration, upcoming CD releases, the Corbridge Chamber Music Festival, and Rob’s new appointment as Head of Woodwind Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Rob and the Gould Piano Trio are Artistic Directors of the Corbridge Chamber Music Festival — this year’s festival begins today (Friday 24th July) and will be taking place online over the weekend via the Corbridge Chamber Music Festival YouTube channel.

As part of the programme, we also heard Rob playing the third movement from Richard Walthew’s Clarinet Concert, an extract from his new disc ‘Reawakened’ with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Martin Brabbins, which is released today.

We also heard the finale of Amy Beach’s Piano Trio, op. 150, from the Gould Piano Trio’s new CD coming out in November, which also includes works by Rebecca Clarke and Charles Ives.

The programme can be heard via this link, with Rob and Lucy’s appearance beginning at 1:22:43.

It will be available at this link until 20th August.
