Rachel Roberts talks to The Strad

Tashmina artist Rachel Roberts discusses her approach to practice in this article republished by The Strad from their archive.

Interviewed by The Strad in June 2016, violist Rachel Roberts describes how she fits practice into a busy schedule, and gives a fascinating view into the details of her practice techniques.

One of Europe’s leading violists, performing internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, Rachel balances practice with the demands of teaching at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, parenting, rehearsals, and other work, saying that

I need to be efficient and focused, and to eliminate distractions, so the first thing I do is switch off my phone. Then I ask myself what I can achieve in the time I have and set myself goals.

Rachel’s busy concert diary for the coming months includes appearances with award-winning chamber music group Ensemble 360 and at Wigmore Hall with the Nash Ensemble and Wigmore Soloists.
