Rachel Roberts, one of Europe’s leading violists, performs internationally as soloist and chamber musician. Rachel has collaborated with conductors Christoph von Dohnanyi and Andras Schiff, performing concertos with the Kolnphilharmonie and the Kammerphilharmonie Graubunden in Switzerland, amongst others. She also enjoys a busy schedule of chamber music, and is a regular guest at many of the leading international chamber music festivals. In 2016 she toured Japan with Christian Tetzlaff, Lars Vogt and Tania Tetzlaff and performed with Steven Isserlis, Joshua Bell, and Dénes Várjon.
Teaching is an important priority in Rachel’s career. She is Professor of Viola at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and holds the esteemed Institute of Education qualification: Professional Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher and Professional Education. Rachel recently became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
She is therefore delighted to join ‘Steven Isserlis and Friends’ to perform Mendelssohn’s String Quintet No. 1 in this Gala concert from which all proceeds go to Wigmore Hall Learning. The venue’s renowned Learning Programme gives people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities opportunities to take part in creative music making, engaging a broad and diverse audience through innovative creative projects, concerts, events and online resources.
