It is a great honour to be able to welcome the highly acclaimed violist, Rachel Roberts, to the Tashmina Artists roster. She performs internationally, both as a soloist and chamber musician, and is one of Europe’s leading violists.
In her solo career Rachel has worked with renowned conductors such as Christoph von Dohnanyi and Martyn Brabbins as well as orchestras such as the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Kammerphilharmonie Graubunden in Switzerland.
She was the featured viola soloist in the BBC TV documentary ‘The Passions of Vaughan Williams’ with Richard Hickox and the Philharmonia Orchestra, and has performed Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante alongside violinists Christian Tetzlaff, Antje Weithaas and Benjamin Schmid in Germany, Switzerland and London.
Roberts’ chamber music has taken her all over Europe to venues including Musikverein (Grand Saal) Vienna, Convertgebouw Amsterdam, St. John’s Smith Square and Cadogan Hall in London. She is also a regular guest at many European Music Festivals such as Salzburg. She enjoys regular collaborations with artists such as Lars Vogt, Joshua Bell, Lisa Batiashvili and Christian Tetzlaff.
Rachel is Professor of Viola at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and also gives masterclasses at international festivals. In May 2015 she performed Brahms’ Piano Quartets in Belgium with Steven Isserlis, Denes Varjon and Henning Kraggerud. Looking ahead, 2016 sees a chamber music tour to Japan with Christian Tetzlaff, Lars Vogt and Tania Tetzlaff.
