Steinway Artist Simon Callaghan performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed at all of the UK’s major concert halls including Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and St David’s Hall Cardiff.
He is delighted to be taking part in the London School of Economics’ vibrant weekly Lunchtime Concert Series this month, with a piano recital programme of Schubert and Schumann on Thursday 9 March at 1.05pm, Shaw Library, 6th Floor, Old Building, LSE, The Strand.
Later in the month Simon performs Tchaikovsky’s colourful and explosive Piano Concerto No.1 in B flat minor with the London Phoenix Orchestra, in their Spring Concert at St John’s Smith Square on the evening of Thursday 23 March.
Simon will join the Piatti Quartet, prize-winners at the 2015 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition and widely regarded as one of the UK’s foremost young ensembles with a host of awards and critically-acclaimed recordings to its name, next month at Conway Hall. Together they perform the chamber version of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1 in E minor. Chopin performed his first concerto in this arrangement, enjoying the transparency and intimacy the chamber setting brings which allows the individual strings to play out each solo line. The Concerto is the finale to the concert, preceded by works by Turina and Janáček.
