Louise Thomson: William Alwyn Harp Concerto Lyra Angelica with the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra

Tomorrow evening (Sat 24 September at 7:30 pm), Louise Thomson performs William Alywn’s pastoral harp concerto ‘Lyra Angelica’, with the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra in Cheshire.

Composed in 1954, the concerto radiates immediate warmth, excitement and appeal, and is orchestrated for harp and string orchestra. Much like his contemporary Samuel Barber, Alwyn was an unashamed romantic who was unafraid to write from and to the heart; his Harp Concerto is a fine example of his lyricism.
