The Linos Piano Trio will host their inaugural chamber music festival in Cologne in June.
The festival also welcomes guest artists Ruth Gibson (viola) and Liana Leßmann (clarinet) to perform alongside the Linos Piano Trio.
The ‘Linos Festival’ will consist of three concerts over two days on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th June. All the concerts will take place at the Altes Pfandhaus, a former pawn shop and bank in the southern region of Cologne, which was converted into a cultural centre with performance and exhibition spaces, in the early 2000s.
The first concert, “All’ongherese”, will take place at 8pm on the Friday night, in which miniatures by Kurtág will be interspersed amongst a selection of contrasting 20th century works. Bartók’s Contrasts, Gideon Klein’s String Trio and Henze’s Kammersonate will all feature, before travelling back about 60 years to finish with Brahms’s Piano Trio, op. 101.
The second performance, at 11am on Saturday morning, will be a children’s concert, aimed at toddlers up to 4 years old, but welcoming all others. The concert will include music by Mozart, Beethoven, Kurtág and more, and will provide a welcome and open environment in which children can listen to music without necessarily having to keep quiet or sit still.
The final concert, “Traum und Ganz” (“Dream and Dance”), on the Saturday evening, will feature the world premiere of Prach Boondiskulchok’s Träumerei (“Reverie”), inspired by the 1944 German film of the same name about the life of Clara Schumann. The programme will also include Beethoven’s Gassenhauer Trio, Mozart’s Piano Quartet in E flat major and Ravel’s La Valse arranged for piano trio by the Linos players.
