Hear Ensemble 360 in Taunton – Schubertiade for Martin Randall Travel

Ensemble 360 are pleased to present a Schubertiade for Martin Randall Travel in Somerset this spring. Each concert is open to the general public, with tickets for individual events as well as the complete series available for booking.

Over the course of three days in April, Ensemble 360 traverse Schubert’s wide-ranging and much beloved chamber music output. Perfectly poised to take on such an endeavour by virtue of the flexibility of their instrumentation, Ensemble 360 offers programmes that range from solo piano dances to octet, string quartet to lieder, and which feature his most iconic chamber music works.

This Schubertiade has been created with the insight and expertise that Ensemble 360 naturally bring to their programming. A versatile, mixed group of eleven musicians comprising five string players, five winds and piano, Ensemble 360 performs all over the UK and abroad, boasting a glowing reputation for the outstanding quality of its performances, the breadth of its work and its commitment to reaching new audiences.

Ensemble 360 opens the Schubertiade on Friday 17th April with a performance of the Adagio and Rondo Concertante in F, D.487, the Arpeggione Sonata in A minor, D.821 and the Quartet in D minor, D. 810, Death and the Maiden’. The following morning, Ensemble 360’s pianist Tim Horton is joined by celebrated British soprano Elizabeth Watts (Ikon Arts Management) in a programme that features some of Schubert’s best-loved lieder, and which closes with the Piano Trio no. 2 in E flat major, op. 100, D. 929. In the evening, the ensemble perform the Fantasy in C major for Violin and Piano, D. 934 and the String Quintet in C major, op. 163, D. 956.

On the final day of the series, Ensemble 360 appear once again with Elizabeth Watts for a programme that includes the rarely-heard cantata for voice, horn and piano ‘Auf dem Strom’, as well as the Piano Quintet in A major, D.667, ‘The Trout’. The Schubertiade closes with works for solo piano and the monumental Octet in F major, D. 803. Each concert in the series is illuminated by talks from Schubert expert and renowned music lecturer and broadcaster Dr. Richard Wigmore.
