Tashmina artists Robert Plane and the Gould Piano Trio announce the programme for this year’s Corbridge Chamber Music Festival.
Co-directed by the Gould Piano Trio and clarinettist Robert Plane, the Corbridge Chamber Music Festival takes place annually, bringing an inspired combination of classic and new chamber music to the north east. Called an ‘enterprising little festival’ by Andrew Clarke in The Guardian’s Top 5 Concert listings, it comprises three days of chamber music performed by the festival directors alongside outstanding guest artists.
Highlights of this year’s festival include a programme and lecture centered around Schoenberg’s seminal Pierrot Lunaire, an evening of Nuevo Tango with guest artist JP Jofre and the Corbridge Festival musicians, and concerts that combine chamber works by Brahms, Dvořák and Debussy with contemporary repertoire and rarely-heard gems. In addition to concerts held around the clock at St. Andrew’s Church, audience members are invited to other events including an open rehearsal, a friends evening, and a come-and-play festival orchestra.
Robert Plane and the Gould Piano Trio have been giving concerts, recording and touring together for thirty years. In a quest to expand the repertoire for their combination of instruments, the ensemble commissioned composer Huw Watkins to compose for them to mark the 20th-anniversary of the Corbridge Chamber Music Festival. They have recently explored the music’s natural affinity with movement in performances with dancer Mayuri Boonham, and their 2023 recording of chamber works by Pamela Harrison was selected as one of Gramophone Magazine’s “best new classical albums”.
This year’s festival will take place between 25th and 28th July in the historical village of Corbridge in Northumberland. Full programme information may be found by following this link.
