Performances by the Gould Piano Trio feature in two of this week’s BBC Radio 3 Composer of the Week, dedicated to Stanford.
The Gould Piano Trio comment:
“There is a great chance to discover the many faces of Stanford this week on Radio 3 Composer of the Week, with the Jig from 6 Irish Fantasies and the Tio no.1. If you want to hear no.2, come to Champs Hill in West Sussex on May 11th when we will be celebrating the 100 years of Stanford’s death in a day devoted to his music.
Successful in his day as a composer, organist, conductor and as a teacher, this composer’s comparatively neglected chamber music is really worth discovering.”
You can hear the Jig from Stanford’s Six Irish Fantasies, Op 54 here, at 2′ 24″ into the second episode entitled ‘Stanford on Broadway’.
In Tuesday’s programme Donald Macleod aired the Gould’s recording of Piano Trio no 1, op 35 (Allegretto con moto), again from their disc of Stanford Chamber Music for Naxos.
