Robin Browning and SÓN present John Lill Beethoven Gala Night

John Lill

Robin Browning and SÓN are honoured to welcome one of the world’s most celebrated pianists, John Lill, to perform Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto on Sunday 28th Jan 2018 at 7:30 pm.

Performing on the Turner Sims’ renowned Steinway, Lill makes the first in a series of appearances with the orchestra as they embark on their Beethoven 20:20 cycle, an epic journey taking in all nine symphonies and the final three piano concerti (each featuring Lill as soloist), culminating with the Emperor in 2020 as part of the global 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth.

Following performances of the Eroica (so memorably “unwrapped” by John Suchet in 2016) and the 7th Symphony (part of their stunning Romsey Abbey debut in 2017), SÓN continue their symphony cycle with arguably the most famous, Symphony No 5.

One of the major pianists of our time – awesome, fabulous, revelatory, quite overwhelming. Pianist Magazine
