Tickets for the upcoming Stiftfestival in the Netherlands go on sale to the general public today, Monday 6th July.
Artistic Director Daniel Rowland and the rest of the festival organisers are thrilled that they are able to run a ‘limited edition’ of their annual festival, with over 20 concerts and a hugely exciting list of artists, despite all of the hurdles!
Daniel Rowland looks forward to releasing a new disc in the autumn, featuring, amongst other landmark works by the composer, Pēteris Vasks’s second violin concerto ‘Lonely Angel’.
Daniel Rowland and the Stiftfestival management team have just announced that tickets will soon go on sale for their upcoming Limited Edition of the Summerfestival 2020. It will run from 23rd to 29th August, and will take account of the current guidance in the Netherlands in relation to COVID-19: events will have a maximum audience of 100 people, maintaining a 1.5-metre distance at all times. The themes of this edition, based on Beethoven’s life, are Isolation, Revolution, Freedom, Brotherhood, Nature and Love, which the organisers note now feel more important and relevant than ever.
Daniel and Maja will chat to presenter Katie Derham about their new CD ‘Pas de Deux’ on the Challenge Records Label, and perform music from the disc live in the studio. The duo will be featured near the beginning of the programme at 5.05pm, and the programme will be available shortly after broadcast via this link.
Daniel was invited to appear on Dutch TV’s Podium Witteman programme last night, as part of their ‘Melody of the Month’ feature. One of Daniel’s choices was ‘Marietta’s Song’ by Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Dutch speakers can hear him talking to presenter Paul Witteman from about 14′ 8″ into the programme here.
Pas de Deux teaser
We are super excited to share with you this first teaser of our upcoming CD "Pas de Deux", made with world class team - Jeremy Hayes and Ben Connellan, at Potton Hall Spa for the wonderful Dutch label Challenge Records International !!! Thank you dear Valentine Laout for this cool video on the roofs of AmsterdamPosted by Daniel Rowland - violin on Friday, February 7, 2020
Pas de Deux brings together a collection of their favourite works which they have performed together over the last two years. Ravel’s ‘Sonata for Violin and Cello, à la memoire de Claude Debussy’ is the only piece on the disc already firmly established in the repertoire for this combination, and the duo has used this work as their “kaleidoscope” for the recording, “a looking glass that takes us both back and forward in time, and both of those simultaneously”.
This coming weekend sees Daniel Rowland travel to Leiden, Netherlands, for a solo violin recital at the Stadsgehoorzaal Leiden.
He will present his programme at 11.30am on Sunday 12th January, as part of the theatre’s Koffieconcert series, featuring works by Bach, Ysaÿe, Glass, Berio, Biber and Bartók.
