Corvus Consort and Ferio Saxophone Quartet

Choir and Saxophones

Voices and Saxophones come together in this exciting collaboration, led by Corvus Consort Director Freddie Crowley. Inspired originally by the Ferio Saxophone Quartet’s ‘Revive’ CD, Crowley saw the potential to extend the concept into Baroque vocal music. The Coronavirus lockdown provided an opportunity for the two groups to experiment, and their video of Bach’s ‘Jesus bleibet meine Freude’ had a great reception online, premiered as part of The Sixteen’s Sounds Sublime Festival.

The combination works extremely well, with the quasi-vocal colour of the saxophone quartet seeming to blur the usually-clear distinction between ‘orchestra’ and ‘choir’, thereby intensifying the overall blend and creating a heightened sense of unity in the music.
