Schubert: Schwanengesang & String Quintet
Rachel Roberts in new Schubert release on Alpha Classics
Violist Rachel Roberts appears as part of a world-class chamber music line-up performing Schubert’s String Quintet on a new recording released last month on the Alpha Classics label.
The release is two-disc set focussing on two of Schubert’s greatest works, both written in the last year of his short life: the song cycle Schwanengesang (Swansong) and the String Quintet in C major.
CD 1 features tenor Julian Prégardien and pianist Martin Helmchen performing Schwanengesang, as well as Schubert’s lesser-known song of the same time and two other works by Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn. And CD 2 is taken up with a full performance of the String Quintet, in which Rachel joins violinists Christian Tetzlaff and Florian Donderer and cellists Tanja Tetzlaff and Marie-Elisabeth Hecker to perform this landmark work of the chamber music repertoire.
The disc is available throughout Europe, and can be purchased online.
