‘From the beginning’ marks 30 years of collaboration between the Galliard Ensemble and Sam Haywood – a musical relationship that began at the Royal Academy of Music in 1993, and has continued to flourish through countless performances over the last three decades.

A recording was inevitable, as was the decision to record the work that inspired so many after it – the Mozart Quintet. We have designed our programme around this work, celebrating two other champions of music for winds and piano, Thuille in his epic Sextet and Poulenc in his witty and charming trio for Piano, Oboe and Bassoon.
