Percy Penguin?s Lighthouse Party at 3pm, preceeded by a linked playshop at 2pm

Many years ago, Percy Penguin lived in a lighthouse with the elderly Lighthouse Keeper. Percy Penguin loved to help Mr. Lighthouse Keeper with all the jobs, and he worked hard at keeping the big flashing light bright and clean, so that the ships could always find their way home safely at night. Things were, however, about to change….and the resourceful little Penguin would soon need the help of his friends.
Join the Galliard Ensemble as they tell this interactive story through words and music. The children in the audience are invited to participate throughout and to then join Percy and his other friends in his ingenious plan to help save the ships.

The Corvus Consort presents an improvisatory exploration of Renaissance soundworlds in collaboration with Music on the Edge.

At the centre of the programme sits a selection of vocal music by some of Renaissance Europe’s most masterful composers, which will be extended and embellished by the saxophone and flute of Chris Caldwell and Susie Hodder-Williams of Music on the Edge. The harmonic language of the Renaissance lends itself effortlessly to a treatment of improvisation and experimentation that casts this music in a fresh and emotionally-heightened light.

In addition, medieval plainchant will feature as a starting point for both voices and instruments as part of improvisatory episodes that will begin and end the concert. The programme will also incorporate Renaissance choral works performed by the Corvus Consort alone.
