Solem Quartet
This concert, from the University of Liverpool’s Ensemble-in-Residence, brings together a well-loved quartet, Felix Mendelssohn’s joyous op 44 no. 3, with lesser-known and newly arranged works. Lili Boulanger’s Nocturne (originally for violin and piano and arranged by the Solem Quartet’s second violin, William Newell) is beautifully expressive and rich in colour; while Henriëtte Bosmans’ String Quartet of 1927 has a fleeting, impressionistic quality.
